Amorim is perfect for united right now, no pressure, no expectations, he comes in ready to take us to the next level and he can work in peace. Oh, please spare me. The same corporate media that will have him on the chopping block before you know it. All you understand is bombast.
Amorim's personality is closer to Klopp's, if anything. The comparisons with Mourinho make no sense. They are both portuguese, that's it.
I guess they also both exude confidence, though it feels very different. Amorim's confidence can be seen by how naturally he interacts with those around him (players, press, etc), and how at ease he is when communicating, admitting error freely, and saying things clearly where other managers would rather use euphemisms. He's not combative, like Mourinho. His assertiveness comes from his ability to persuade people.
Mou's confidence back then shone through in the manner in which he made winning feel like an inevitability. There's a quote which he is well known for in Portugal when he was Porto's manager: "If things go according to plan, we will be champions, and if things do not go according to plan, we'll also be champions", then he bangs the table and leaves the press conference. And in the UK, he is of course well known for the quote "I'm the special one".
There's ZERO chance Amorim would ever say either of those two things.
Amorim rarely mentions the refereeing (I say rarely, though I do not recall a single occasion when that happened). He also does not foment the sort of "us against the world" attitude that Mou is known for.
In regards to player management, Mou was much more aggressive towards players, which had mixed results depending on the players. Amorim has a sort of "no man left behind" attitude. He tries to pull everyone up. Ricardo Esgaio would not have survived in that Sporting side if Mou was the manager, rather than Amorim.
